In keeping with the care and attention paid to all other aspects of the TREECYCLE design, the brakes are purpose-made for the tricycle application, with left and right hand hydraulic callipers operated simultaneously by a single lever. The levers can be locked in the "on" position, providing the vital parking brake function. A total of four discs are fitted, two to the front wheel and one each to the rear. The use of 203 mm diameter discs increases the mechanical advantage over the standard 160 mm normally used with these callipers and provides the additional benefit of improved heat dissipation over long descents or repeated hard use. An electric switch mounted in both levers controls the brake lights provided to ensure that other following road users, are not caught unaware by the superb braking efficiency of the system.
